How to Set Up Dock in Slack
1. Install Dock in Slack
Log in to your Slack account.
Click the Dock installation link provided by our team.
You may see a message that the app isn’t approved by Slack yet. That’s expected during our alpha rollout. Click “Allow” to proceed.
Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize and connect Dock to your Slack workspace.
2. Invite Dock to Channels
To use Dock in team channels:
Type
/invite @Dock by BackOps
in any channel where you want Dock active.You can also message Dock directly in personal DMs (no invite needed)
3. Ask Dock from Any Message
Once Dock is added to a channel:
Hover over a message in Slack
Click the three dots (⋯) on the message
Select “Ask Dock (Dock by BackOps AI)”
If you don’t see this option, click “Manage Shortcuts” to pin it to your menu.
Dock will analyze the context of the message and fetch answers from your connected systems.
4. Generate & Send a Response
After Dock returns an answer, you’ll see the option to:
Generate Draft – Create a polished, customer-facing reply.
Edit First – Tweak the message in the text box before posting.
Send Now – Post the reply instantly.
You can also ask Dock follow-up questions to refine the response even more.
Dock currently posts replies as separate messages (not threaded). Thread support is coming soon.
Using Dock Inside the Dock App
You can also talk to Dock directly inside the Dock app. Just open Dock by BackOps and start chatting. Ask it anything tied to your documentation, systems, or workflows.
Best Practices for Using Dock in Slack
Pin Dock to High-Traffic Channels: Add Dock to support, ops, or sales channels where fast answers matter most.
Encourage “Ask Dock” for Repetitive Questions: Reduce shoulder taps and duplicate answers by making Dock the first stop.
Keep the Knowledge Hub Updated: The better your content, the better Dock’s replies. Regularly upload new FAQs, playbooks, or system guides.
